ORIGINAL RELEASE
Howard County police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision on Oct. 26 in Ellicott City in which one person was killed.
At approximately 9:38 a.m., an officer in an unmarked HCPD police vehicle attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2013 Honda Accord in the area of Route 29 and Rogers Avenue. The vehicle fled from the attempted traffic stop. Preliminary investigation indicates the officer deactivated the emergency equipment and did not initiate a pursuit. A short time later, the vehicle struck a utility pole while traveling south on Rogers Avenue past Faber Way. The driver and sole occupant, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing. Rogers Avenue was closed in the area of Faber Way for approximately six hours.
