Howard County police have charged a mother and her boyfriend in the death of her 3-year-old child in Columbia last year.
Kathleen Amesbury, 28, of Columbia, and Dale Brown, Jr., 25, of Hanover, PA, have been charged with second-degree murder, first- and second-degree child abuse, involuntary manslaughter and neglect of a minor.
Police were contacted by hospital staff on March 26, 2025 after the child was taken to the hospital by ambulance from a residence in the 7200 block of Procopio Circle with severe injuries. The child was pronounced dead on March 28, 2025.
Through a detailed year-long investigation, detectives determined that Amesbury and Brown were responsible for the child’s death. They were arrested in Pennsylvania today.
