Howard County Health Department

We have numerous programs and services that work to improve the health and wellbeing of those who live, work, play and learn in the County.  In order to accomplish this, we rely on a large group of dedicated and talented people.  Our staff includes medical personnel, social workers, counselors, nutritionists, environmental health inspectors, as well as, administrative, clerical, fiscal and facilities staff. Our staff physically work in the office, in clinics and out in the community including neighborhoods, schools, construction sites, restaurants and more.

HCHD employs an incredibly diverse workforce with more than a dozen languages spoken by our employees. Our diverse team has a passion for public health and the work they do supporting an equally diverse and growing community. You will find our employees out in the community at health fairs, vaccination clinics, at community wellness events and even at the Mall in Columbia.

Getting to the Health Department Using Public Transportation

How to get to the Health Department using RTA bus (Regional Transportation Agency of Central Maryland)

The Howard County Health Department is located at 8930 Stanford Blvd., Columbia, MD 21045.

Several RTA Routes include stops on Stanford Blvd.:

  • Route 408
  • Route 501
  • Route 402 also stops at Dobbin Center, which is adjacent to the Health Department location. (Note: this route does not include a stop on Stanford Blvd.)

For more information about accessing public transportation using RTA and a complete route map, visit transitrta.com. HCPSS Middle/High School Students and HCC Students have the option to get a Student Bus Pass for free rides on RTA.

The Health Department is also accessible using the HoCo RapidRide transit service, an app-based rideshare service supported by the County.
