ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to install sidewalk along the east side of Roosevelt Boulevard from Cemetery Lane to Business Parkway in Elkridge, is scheduled to begin on or about Wednesday, December 4th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late January 2025.
Sidewalks create neighborhood connections and provide our residents safe and healthy transportation options. To help us expand multimodal transportation in Howard County, including in our Elkridge community, my Fiscal Year 2025 Capital Budget included $14.7 million in County funding for sidewalks, bike lanes, pathways and other Complete Streets infrastructure that makes projects like this possible.
Part of the County’s Pedestrian Master Plan, WalkHoward, the project will improve pedestrian accessibility along the US 1 corridor. The project will also include the installation of curb and gutter, minor drainage improvements and driveway entrances and curb ramps.
Flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic, as the eastbound travel lane will be closed during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Signs will also be posted in the area to alert residents and motorists of the work and corresponding lane closure.
While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.
