ELLICOTT CITY, MD - The Howard County Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Bureau of Engineering’s Transportation and Special Projects Division will hold a community outreach meeting on Thursday, October 29th, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., in the Hockley Room of Howard County Library System’s Elkridge Branch, to present planned modifications to the Old Montgomery Road and Brightfield Road intersection in Ellicott City. The project proposes the installation of speed humps along Brightfield Road and marked crosswalks at the intersection, as well as the converting the intersection from a one-way stop to an all-way stop control. By implementing strategies available in the County’s Design Manual and recently updated Howard County Neighborhood Traffic Calming Policy, the goal of the project is to address traffic and safety concerns at the intersection.

I remain committed to making our streets and roads safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers. Through our Neighborhood Traffic Calming program, we are bringing more traffic calming solutions to neighborhoods to slow down speeds and improve safety across the county. Since we updated our Neighborhood Traffic Calming Policy last year, we have invested more than $1.3 million in neighborhood traffic calming projects across the county. When complete, these neighborhood streets in Ellicott City will be safer and more friendly for all road users, especially to those visiting our recently completed Community Garden at Old Montgomery Road.
