ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to install a sidewalk along Snowden River Parkway between MD 108 and Tamar Drive in Columbia, is underway. The project will improve neighborhood connectivity and accessibility to Long Reach High School by closing a gap in the sidewalk network between MD 108 and Tamar Drive. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by mid-November 2026.

Every neighborhood deserves safe, connected infrastructure that makes it easier for residents to walk, bike, and get where they need to go. Since taking office in December 2018, my administration has aimed to ensure just that by creating a linked and accessible transportation network in Howard County. By closing this sidewalk gap along Snowden River Parkway, we’re creating a more connected and walkable community while improving pedestrian access to nearby destinations. This project is another important step toward building a Howard County where safe, convenient transportation options are available to everyone.

Signs will be posted and flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic, as temporary closures of the right southbound lane along Snowden River Parkway in the project area can be expected during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., throughout the project.

While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.
