ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County project to clean and paint the Snowden River Parkway southbound bridge over Robert Fulton Drive in Columbia, is scheduled to begin or about Monday, September 21st. During the project, the vertical clearance beneath the bridge along Robert Fulton Drive will be reduced to 13.5 feet; as a result, vehicles exceeding this lowered temporary clearance are advised to use alternate routes. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by early October 2026.
Signs and variable message boards will be posted along southbound Snowden River Parkway and Robert Fulton Drive to alert motorists of the temporary low clearance and corresponding cleaning and painting work, which is expected to take place Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The lower clearance will be in effect 24/7 for the entire duration of the project.
While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.
This project is a part of the County’s Rehabilitation of Nine Bridge Structures project funded under the Federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act program.
