ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County emergency repair project to replace the culvert under the travel lane of Sheppard Lane between Preakness Circle Lane and MD 108 in Clarksville, is expected to begin on or about Tuesday, September 2nd. The project includes replacing the failed corrugated metal storm drainpipe with a reinforced concrete storm drainpipe. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late September 2025.
While this work is being done, Sheppard Lane will be closed to all traffic between MD 108 and Preakness Circle. Traffic will follow a clearly marked detour using Sheppard Lane to MD 108 to Homewood Road to Sheppard Lane.
Variable message boards and signs will be posted to alert the public of the project and corresponding road closure. Additionally, a recorded message at 410-313-4400 will carry details and updates as they are available.
While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.
