ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Bureau of Highways’ Traffic Engineering Division will hold a virtual community outreach meeting on Wednesday, August 12th from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. via Webex (meeting passcode is “schoolzone”) to discuss 18 new proposed school zones throughout Howard County.
A “school zone” is a designated section of roadway on or near a school where additional traffic safety measures may be implemented to improve safety for students, pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists and enhance driver awareness in areas with student activity exists.
DPW’s Traffic Engineering Division has completed its engineering evaluations of its proposed new school zone locations. During this community outreach meeting, Division staff will present these locations, explain the basis for its recommendations, and provide residents with an opportunity to learn about the proposed changes and provide feedback before implementation.
Following the virtual meeting, the Division will be accepting public questions and comments about its proposed new school zones through Monday, August 24th. All questions and comments should be emailed to Erjon Rembeci at erembeci@howardcountymd.gov. After the meeting, the meeting materials will be posted on the Traffic Engineering Division’s website.
