ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to install Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalk ramps and school crossing signage at the southeastern intersection of Old Washington Road and Augustine Avenue in Elkridge, is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, June 9th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late June 2025.

To provide our residents safe and healthy transportation options, we have invested more than $65 million in multimodal transportation projects like this one in the last seven years, compared to just $11.6 million during the prior four-year period. Projects like this allow us to construct, expand, and improve our infrastructure to ensure a safer, healthier, and more inclusive community. This builds upon other Complete Streets and multimodal projects that we have advanced in the Elkridge area, including the Montgomery Road sidewalk project, the Roosevelt Boulevard sidewalk project, and forthcoming traffic calming improvements to Hanover Road and Furnace Avenue.

Signs will be posted and flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic, as temporary lane closures can be expected throughout the project during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Additionally, the sidewalk along the west side of Old Washington Road and along the east side at Augustine Avenue, will be closed during construction of the ramp.

While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.
