ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to construct sidewalk along Frederick Road near Centennial Lane in Ellicott City, is expected to begin on or about Monday, May 15th. This is the second phase of the County’s Pedestrian Plan, WalkHoward: Moving Forward, to improve connections for Font Hill neighborhoods to Howard County Library System’s Miller branch, the Ellicott City 50+ Center and shopping in the vicinity of the Frederick Road, Centennial Lane and US Route 40 intersections.

This project will add two additional signalized pedestrian crossings at the Frederick Road/Centennial Lane intersection, as well as an Americans with Disabilities Act compliant walking route along the southside of Frederick Road from Centennial Lane to the new pedestrian crossing at Pierce Drive. The project will also include the installation of a new stormwater management system along the southside of the roadway as well. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by the middle of June.

During construction hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic as needed, as temporary lane shifts can be throughout the project, especially during the delivery of materials and the installation of the new curb. Signs will also be posted in the area to alert motorists and pedestrians of the work. A recorded message at 410-313-4400 will carry details and updates.

While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.
