ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today announced Tradepoint Atlantic will establish a new location in Howard County on Route 1 in Savage. This is the company’s first expansion beyond its flagship campus in Baltimore County and it will create roughly 500 new jobs in Howard County. Tradepoint will invest millions to revitalize the existing commercial property at 9299 Washington Boulevard in Savage. Photos of the announcement can viewed on the County's Flickr webpage.
A company like Tradepoint Atlantic could have chosen any variety of jurisdictions to site its first expansion, but Howard County’s strategic location and business friendly approach made this an ideal partnership. We are excited for this locally grown powerhouse of a company to bring needed investment and revitalization to this stretch of the Route 1 corridor.
Tradepoint Atlantic, a company known for the multi-billion-dollar redevelopment of the former Bethlehem Steel site at Sparrows Point, will soon expand its international logistics operations to Howard County. Tradepoint will invest upwards of $100 million to create an inland office industrial park to be named “Tradepoint at Savage Crossing.” Tradepoint Atlantic at Savage Crossing is expected to generate an estimated 500 new family-supporting supply chain and logistics jobs in Howard County. The project is expected to be complete in about three years.
Tradepoint at Savage Crossing presents a great opportunity to leverage our industrial development platform and expand our footprint of logistics focused assets in key supply constrained submarkets. The Route One corridor is ideally positioned for re-investment and growth in our sector, which promises to bring new jobs and substantial investment as Howard County continues to strengthen and diversify its economy.
The project timeline for construction is as follows:
- Q2 2025 - Q1 2026 - Development Plan Approvals
- Q1 2026 - Demolition and Site Preparation
- Q2-Q4 2026 - Construction
- Q4 2026 - First Building Complete

“Tradepoint Atlantic’s expansion into Howard County is a big win for the Baltimore Region. This investment will bring hundreds of new jobs and strengthen our position as a national leader in logistics and industrial manufacturing,” said Mark Anthony Thomas, President & CEO, Greater Baltimore Committee, “It’s a clear sign that the Baltimore Region is growing, thriving, and ready for even more success.”
U.S. Route 1 was constructed roughly 100 years ago, giving rise to the boom of the American automobile. For decades, the Route 1 corridor represented the main throughfare for travelers from Maine to Florida. It also became the commercial highway connecting the Eastern Seaboard and a base for commercial and industrial business and employment opportunities.
“As Howard County continues to grow, maintaining a strong and diverse business mix is essential to our long-term economic success,” said Kristi Simon, President & CEO, Howard County Chamber of Commerce. “We’re thrilled to see a major investment like Tradepoint at Savage Crossing choosing to bring new jobs and opportunity to the Route 1 corridor.”
This development will include 500,000 square feet of Class A flex warehousing and industrial facilities across three buildings, creating new opportunities for shipping, storage, and local manufacturing. Known for its diverse economy and strategic location between Baltimore and Washington, DC with access to the Port of Baltimore and BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, Howard County recognizes the importance of commercial real estate to its continued competitiveness and job creation.
“This expansion is a powerful example of strategic growth that brings jobs, investment, and momentum to Howard County while advancing our regional economy,” said Jennifer Jones, CEO, Howard County Economic Development Authority. “By focusing on strategic areas like the Route 1 corridor for redevelopment, we’re creating a more connected and competitive future.”
Tradepoint Atlantic’s model of redevelopment at Sparrows Point inspired Ball’s recent establishment of the Eastern Howard County Enterprise Zone. An economic gamechanger, the Eastern Howard County Enterprise Zone is a massive incentive program for businesses along Route 1 and in Columbia Gateway, offering tax credits to businesses looking to reinvest in their properties and tax benefits to those looking to grow their employment base. One of just 36 such areas statewide in 20 jurisdictions, Howard County’s new Enterprise Zone encompasses 2,337 total acres of commercial and industrial properties along the Route 1 corridor roughly bounded by I-95 to the west, the Anne Arundel County line to the east, MD 100 to the north and MD 175 to the south.
“The Central Maryland Region continues to experience substantial industrial growth. The Central Maryland Chamber of Commerce, as the conduit of commerce, is excited to see the incredible effects of Tradepoint Atlantic’s expansion into Howard County,” said Zubin David, Vice Chair of the Board, Central Maryland Chamber of Commerce. “This development is core to our mission statement that will “Drive the Region’s Economic Success.” We look forward to being supportive of the community needs as this project continues to evolve.”
