ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball joined the County’s Department of Recreation & Parks and other elected officials on Saturday, November 2, for a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of Troy Park at Elkridge’s fourth field, known as Field One. A synthetic turf multipurpose field, Field One will include a press box, bleachers and lighting that will allow for televised games at night. Pictures from the event can be found here.

“Howard County is nationally renowned for its state-of-the-art recreation facilities. Since opening in 2014, Troy Park has served Elkridge as a valuable resource for residents, as well as visitors from around the region and beyond. We remain dedicated to providing the very best in amenities and infrastructure for Elkridge, and across the county,” said Ball. “Capable of hosting tournaments, league games, summer camps and so much more, this new field offers yet another way for residents and visitors to enjoy this valuable public space. This newest step forward in our five-phase plan for Troy Park will continue to expand recreation opportunities in Elkridge and keep our community the very best place to live, visit, and play.”

Saturday’s ribbon cutting ceremony coincided with the start of the 2019 Fall Inside Lacrosse Invitational two-day lacrosse tournament. The tournament featured 58 teams from California, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Utah and Virginia, and was estimated to bring in $360,000 in economic tourism to our region.

“Through many years of hard work, dedication and collaboration, Troy Park has grown from a mere concept into an important community resource for all of Howard County” said Recreation & Parks Director Raul Delerme. “This is another milestone in the five-phase plan for Troy Park, which will provide an important venue for recreational sports for many years to come.”

Located at 6500 Mansion Lane, adjacent to I-95 and MD 100, Troy Park at Elkridge is Howard County’s eighth regional park. Once owned by John Dorsey, the County purchased the final piece of the Troy Park’s 101-acres in 2009. The County broke ground on the park in 2013 and with the completion of Field One, Troy Park now features four lighted, synthetic turf multipurpose fields, parking areas with bio-retention islands to filter stormwater and a children’s playground. To be completed over five-phases, the overall cost of the 101-acre park is estimated to be $45.8 million. Once complete, Troy Park will be the largest sports venue in Howard County.
