ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to replace a damaged retaining wall approximately 0.4 miles north of 560 River Road in Sykesville is expected to begin on or about Monday, August 19. The project will include stabilization of the wall and drainage improvements. The wall was damaged by flooding that occurred on May 27, 2018. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late September.

During the project, the roadway from the south end of River Road to the project site will be closed to thru traffic. Motorists will follow a clearly marked detour using MD 32 (Sykesville Road) and West Friendship Road (MD 851) to reach the north end of River Road. Signs will be posted to alert motorists of the road closure and the detour. Additionally, a recorded message at 410-313-3637 will carry project details and updates.
