ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County’s Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Multimedia Room I of the North Laurel Community Center located at 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road in Laurel, to present plans for a nearby stream restoration project.

DPW’s Bureau of Environmental Services plans to complete a stream restoration project on an unnamed stream, a tributary to the Patuxent River, located in the wooded open space area on the western side of the North Laurel Community Center and Park. Like many streams in the area, this stream has been heavily impacted by stormwater and has eroded significantly. The proposed stream restoration project will utilize a variety of wood and rock structures to reestablish a more natural and stable stream and floodplain condition. The project is expected to create a more functional environmental system. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer/fall 2019.

The informal meeting will include a brief overview of the project and draft construction drawings will be available for viewing. County staff and the project’s design consultant team, KCI Technologies, Inc., will be on hand to answer any questions

Those unable to attend the meeting who would like to view the plans and/or have questions should contact Mr. Brian Cleary with the DPW’s Stormwater Management Division at 410-313-6455 or email [email protected].

An interpreter for people who are deaf or hard of hearing will be available if requested seven working days prior to the meeting. Please call DPW at 410-313-3440 (voice) or use Relay at 7-1-1, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
