The Warrant/Fugitive Section is responsible for apprehending fugitives who are wanted on criminal grand jury indictments, bench warrants and juvenile warrants out of the Circuit Court for Howard County. The Office is also responsible for all civil body attachments issued by the District Court of Maryland. In addition, they assist other law enforcement agencies within Maryland and across the country by attempting to arrest fugitives who are believed to be living, working or hiding in Howard County.

Warrant teams are not restricted to the borders of Howard County; they also arrest fugitives in other counties, cities and states with the assistance of other law enforcement agencies. During 2007, the Warrant/Fugitive Section extradited 29 felony criminal fugitives from 11 states.

All warrants are entered into the local computer system in order to assist Howard County's 911 Dispatchers and Police in determining who is wanted by the Sheriff's Office. All criminal and child support warrants are entered into METERS (Maryland Electronic Telecommunications Enforcement Resource System) and all extraditable criminal warrants are in NCIC (National Crime Information Center).
