"Volunteer of the Year" Awards Program

Howard County's annual “Volunteer of the Year” awards program recognizes people, agencies and groups that have demonstrated commitment and dedication to making our community a better place. 

Nominations categories for this awards program are:

  • Individual Youth (18 & Under)
  • Individual Adult (Over 18)
  • Non-profit Organization or Governmental Agency (recognizing non-profit or governmental agencies successfully engaging and managing volunteers)
  • For-profit or Community Group (recognizing for-profit businesses or community groups providing volunteer support to local non-profit or governmental agencies)

To be Eligible: Nominees must be either residents of Howard County or do their volunteer work in Howard County. Their efforts should have a significant impact on an individual or the community; for individual nominations, the nominated service must be performed outside the scope of the nominee’s paid employment. Please check back in November 2018 for the 2019 Volunteer of the Year nomination form. Please note, before filing out the nomination form on your computer, save the document to and open it from your computer. 

Award winners will have an engraved brick installed in the “Pathway to Excellence” at the County’s Troy Park at Elkridge. The pathway will feature bricks etched with the winners’ names and award, and will be part of one of Troy Park’s future development phases.

Endorsement Forms: In addition to the nomination form, nominators may also submit up to two accompanying endorsement forms from other individuals or organizations familiar with the nominee’s volunteer contributions. Please check back in November 2018 for the 2019 Volunteer of the Year endorsement form. Please note, before filing out the endorsement form on your computer, save the document to and open it from your computer.

DEADLINE: The deadline for the 2018 Volunteer of the Year awards program has passed. All nominees were recognized at a ceremony on Thursday, April 12, 2018 presented by Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman, the County Council and the Volunteer Center Serving Howard County.
