Summer Youth Employment Program- Now Accepting Applications!

The Office of Workforce Development's Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), provides Howard County youth between the ages of 14-21 with paid internships within Howard County Government. The program focuses on job readiness and career exploration while providing valuable work experience to youth. We are now accepting applications for our 2019 summer youth program. To participate in the SYEP, you must be a Howard County Resident between the ages of 14-21; along with meeting one or more of the following criteria:

  • Low Income
  • Homeless or Runaway
  • Pregnant or Parenting
  • An Offender
  • High School Drop Out
  • Foster Child
  • Deficient in Basic Literacy Skills 
  • Youth with a Disability (IEP)

The SYEP participants must be willing, able and committed to work up to 25 hours a week for eight weeks.  The program begins July 1, 2019 and ends August 23, 2019. A mandatory orientation will be held July 1, 2019 through July 3, 2019 from 9AM - 3PM. The orientation will take place at the Columbia Workforce Center located at 7161 Columbia Gateway Dr., Columbia, MD 21046.

To be considered for the program, please complete and return all copies of the appropriate documentation by the application deadline. Due to the sensitive nature of the required documentation, please submit all packets in person at the Columbia Workforce Center by Friday, May 17, 2019 at 4PM. Applications will be reviewed and eligible individuals will be contacted for an interview.  Submission of an application DOES NOT guarantee acceptance into the program.  Positions are limited.
