About

Howard County Recreation & Parks offers programs for youth and tweens that involve the use of LEGO® bricks, to include after school classes and summer camps. These programs have a wide variety of topics including STEAM concepts (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), in addition to topics based on a variety of mainstream kids themes such as Angry Birds®, Clash of Clans®, Jurassic Park®, Minecraft®, Minions®, Pirates, Pokemon®, Star Wars®, Super Heroes (DC Comic® and Marvel®) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles®. Popular LEGO® themes include Legends of Chima®, LEGO® Friends, and Ninjago®.

Bricks4Girlz LEGO®: Friends Camp 1 (5-12 yrs)

Grab your friends and hang out with us for a girls-only week of crafting and creating with LEGO® bricks. Introduce your friends to our “friends” as we get to know LEGO’s girl-themed models. Build adorable houses, cafes and more for a cast of female characters including Olivia and her friends. Enjoy building lots of other unique things with bricks, from jewelry making to brick art, with a take-home project each day. Bricks4Kidz LEGO® Brick Critters: The Secret Life (5-12 yrs)

Ever wonder what your pets do while you are at school? Join Max, an adorable dog and Snowball the rabbit on this fun and furry adventure. Then, dive to the depths of the ocean with Dory to help her search for her family and build other favorite aquatic movie sea life. In addition to imagining what pets do when left alone, build various critters, including motorized buzzing bees, fluttering butterflies and more. Show off your take-home handbook displaying all the brick critters you built at this exciting camp! Pair with Space Adventures & Galaxy Camp for a full-day with supervised lunch hour (noon-1pm).

Brick Detective Mysteries Camp (5-12 yrs)
We’ve got lots of cool things to build, and lots of exciting mysteries to solve, as we unmask the villains and solve the crimes! Camp combines themes from Scooby-Doo and the classic Clue® Board Game into fun brick activities. Pair with Minion Brick Madness Camp or Robotics, Coding & More Camp for July 23-27 for a full-day with supervised lunch hour (noon-1pm).

 

Bricks4Kidz LEGO® Brick Olympics Camp (5-12 yrs)
Calling all sports fans! On your mark, get set... build! Celebrate the Olympics with cool models of sports from cycling to soccer, basketball to gymnastics. Take a break from the heat and compete indoors to set your own Brick Olympics records with our exciting sports-themed challenges! Winners receive Bricks4Kidz medals and be posted on our “Medal Tally” board. Pair with Mining & Crafting Camp 1 for June 18-22 for a full-day with supervised lunch hour (noon-1pm).

 

Bricks4Kidz LEGO® Minion Brick Madness Camp (5-12 yrs)
Do you love those crazy yellow guys? Who doesn’t! Come and build with us as we explore their madcap world of silly inventions and gadgets. Can you make a fart gun from LEGO® bricks? Test your inventive side in this fun-filled, minion-inspired LEGO® camp! Pair with Brick Detective Mysteries Camp or Brick City Construction Camp for a full-day with supervised lunch hour (noon-1pm).

 

Bricks4Kidz LEGO® Space Adventures & Galaxy Camp (5-12 yrs)
Inspired by NASA and Star Wars®, this camp is packed full of models that make your imagination blast off! Each day, learn about real-life space exploration and build models related to the NASA space program. In addition, the day includes LEGO® Star Wars®-themed models, video games, group games, challenges and more. This camp provides the spark for imagination and creativity needed to take off on an adventure that’s out of this world! Bricks4Kidz LEGO®: Brick City Construction Camp (5-12 yrs)
Put your hard hat on and head on over to our construction site as we work on building the coolest city in the land made of LEGO® bricks! Plan and design our city with elements such as a bridge, police station, lighthouse or ideas that our builders want to contribute. Make your own motorized models of tools of the trade from a hand-held power saw and jackhammer to some tough, all-terrain vehicles such as a bulldozer and dump truck. Pair with Minion Brick Madness Camp or Robotics, Coding & More Camp for July 23- 27; and with Brick Movie Making Basics Camp for Aug 20-24 for a full-day with supervised lunch hour (noon-1pm).

 

Bricks4Kidz LEGO®: Clash of Bricks Camp (5-12 yrs)
Gather your barbarians and archers for this Clash of Clans inspired camp! It’s time for battle Bricks4Kidz style! Collect and store gold and elixir to train troops and build villages. You must stop at nothing to defend your village from enemy attacks! Experience the thrill of battling barbarians, greedy goblins, powerful PEKKAs and wild wall breakers. All this and more at Clash of Bricks Camp! Pair with Mining & Crafting Camp 2 for a full day with supervised lunch hour (noon-1pm).

 

Bricks4Kidz LEGO®: Jurassic Bricks Camp (5-12 yrs)
Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Put on your hiking boots and camouflage, you’re about to enter Jurassic Brick World! Build a world that comes to life with gentle Brontosaurus, ferocious Velociraptor, terrible T-Rex and more! Learn about amazing dinosaurs that lived during the Jurassic period and other extinct prehistoric animals that roamed the Earth millions of years ago! Pair with Amusement Park Creators Camp for July 9-13; with Brick Galaxy Wars Camp or Amusement Park Creators Camp for July 16-20; and with Space Adventures & Galaxy Camp for Aug 13-17 for a full-day with supervised lunch hour (noon-1pm).

 

Bricks4Kidz LEGO®: Ninja Training Camp (5-12 yrs)
Do you love the Ninjago-themed LEGO® sets? Then this is the camp for you Throughout the week, play games and have challenges that are based on the LEGO® Ninjago television show and model sets. Enjoy arena battles, doing ninja related crafts, and building Bricks4Kidz models. Enjoy the zip line racing, skeleton bowling and all sorts of adventure throughout the week. Parents, you may think it’s all about the action, but be amazed how we sneak in some learning too. Pair with Space Adventures & Galaxy Camp for July 2-6; and with Friends Camp 2 or Transforming Brick Creations for July 9-13 for a full-day with supervised lunch hour (noon-1pm).

 

Bricks4Kidz LEGO®: Transforming Brick Creations (5-12 yrs)
Transformers, more than meets the eye! We have taken the popularity of the Transformers franchise and created a fun camp with LEGO® models that can be transformed into new creations! From vehicles to robots and back again. Enjoy this fun camp filled with games and builds based on Transformers and Rescue Robots. Pair with Friends Camp 1 or Extreme Ninjas Camp for July 9-13; and Amusement Park Creators Camp for Aug 13-17 for a full-day camp experience.

 

Bricks4Kidz LEGO®: Amusement Park Creators Camp (5-12 yrs)
Get your ticket to ride at Bricks4Kidz’s very own amusement park! Campers, build a new ride each day, learn how to make things spin, roll, turn and rock. Then take what you’ve learned to design your own thrills and challenges. Motorized models maximize the action and fun. Each day includes carnival themed games, group challenges, model building and more! Pair with another Bricks4Kidz LEGO® camp for a full-day with supervised lunch hour (noon-1pm): with Jurassic Bricks Camp for July 9-13; or Super Brick Heroes Camp for July 9-13 and 16-20; with Mining & Crafting Camp 2 for Aug 6-10; with Transforming Brick Creations for Aug 13-17.

 

Bricks4Kidz LEGO®: Angry Birdies/Bad Piglets Camp (5-12 yrs)
Enter the world of Angry Birds and Bad Piggies the Bricks4Kidz way! You are challenged to physically build and destroy a level from the popular game of Angry Birds. Set your birds to flight by launching them on catapults and slingshots to destroy pigs. Build a working launcher to create things to knock down. Build different colored birds using LEGO® Bricks, along with our proprietary model kits. Pair with Friends Camp 2 or Brick Galaxy Wars Camp for a full-day with supervised lunch hour (noon-1pm).

 

Bricks4Kidz LEGO®: Brick Pirate Adventures Camp (5-12 yrs)
Join Capt. Black Brick and his crew on this fun adventure of the high seas. Do love Capt. Jack and all the scallywags of the Pirates of the Caribbean? How about Jake and the Neverland Pirates, or good ole Peter Pan and Captain Hook? Come on a swashbuckling adventure during this fun and engaging camp week! Pair with Robotics, Coding & More Camp for Aug 27-31 for a full-day camp experience with supervised lunch (noon-1pm).

 

Bricks4Kidz LEGO®: Super Heroes Camp (5-12 yrs)
Join Bricks4Kidz for a week building Super Heroes with LEGO® bricks. Explore all the caped crusaders and discover their super powers. Create a fantasy world and protect it against all the evil arch enemies with custom contraptions made with LEGO® bricks. Pair with Brick Galaxy Wars Camp or Amusement Park Creators Camp for July 16-20; with Mining & Crafting Camp 1 for July 23-27; and with Mining & Crafting Camp 2 or Wizards & Muggles Camp for Aug 6-10 for a full-day with supervised lunch hour (noon-1pm).

 

Bricks4Kidz LEGO®: Pocket Brick Monsters Camp (5-12 yrs)
Get ready for an adventure in the world of Pokemon®! Capture wild Pokemon ® creatures and train them for battle. Improve your accuracy and power as you learn new moves and use special abilities. Tap into your inner creativity as we build Dratini, Pikachu, Poke Balls and more with LEGO® bricks. Do you have what it takes to become a LEGO® Pokemon® Master? Pair with Wizards and Muggles Camp for a full-day camp experience with supervised lunch (noon-1pm).

 

Bricks4KidzLEGO®: Mining & Crafting Camp 1 (5-12 yrs)
Minecraft is a game about creating anything you can imagine. Experience the world of Minecraft with LEGO® bricks in this fun camp! Start by crafting shelter and some of the mobs, critters and tools using LEGO®. Face new challenges each day, building motorized Bricks4Kidz models and crafting key elements from the popular Minecraft game. This camp requires a $20 lab fee for computer use. Pair with Brick Olympics Camp for June 18-22; with Mining & Crafting Camp 2 for June 25-29; with Super Heroes Camp for July 23-27; and with Mining & Crafting Camp 2 or Wizards & Muggles Camp for August 6-10 for a full-day camp experience with supervised lunch (noon-1pm).

 

Bricks4KidzLEGO®: Mining & Crafting Camp 2 (5-12 yrs)
Steve is jumping for joy as he introduces the newest members of his Minecraft world. Enjoy being challenged to bring your virtual designs to life by building new mob figures, mosaics and custom models, incorporating LEGO® Bricks. Are you ready for the challenge? This camp requires a $20 lab fee for computer fee. Pair with Mining & Crafting Camp 1 for June 25-29; with Amusement Park Creators Camp for Aug 6-10; with Mining & Crafting Camp 1 or Super Brick Heroes Camp for August 6-10; and with Clash of Bricks Camp for Aug 20-24 for a full-day with supervised lunch hour (noon-1pm).

 

Bricks4Kidz LEGO® Wizards and Muggles Camp (5-12 yrs)
Break out those wands and capes, it's time to get some LEGO® magic going on at Bricks4Kidz. Based on the popular book series, we are bringing a LEGO® twist to our Harry Potter fans. If you love all things Hogwarts related, have a blast at our Wizards and Muggles camp! Pair with Pocket Brick Monsters Camp for June 18-22; and with Super Brick Heroes Camp or Mining & Crafting Camp 1 for Aug 6-10 for a full-day with supervised lunch hour (noon-1pm).

 

TECH Scientific: Adventure Stories (5-12 yrs)
In this adventure, come use LEGO® bricks and LEGO® WeDo robots to build an airplane rescue, a giant escape, and a sailboat storm. Learn how to program and operate their creations using a laptop computer. Bring a nut-free snack and beverage. Pair with another TECH Scientific for a full day camp experience including a supervised lunch period. For full-day, pair with Play Soccer for June 18-22; and with WeDo LEGO® Meets Scratch Intermediate for a fullday camp experience with supervised lunch (noon-1pm). Bring a nut-free lunch and beverage. $15 materials fee to first class.

 

TECH Scientific: Amazing Mechanism (5-6 yrs)
WeDo LEGO® Amazing Mechanisms. Come enjoy using LEGO® bricks and LEGO® WeDo robots to create a variety of different mechanisms. Projects include a hungry alligator, a flying bird, and a roaring lion. Campers, learn how to program and operate your creations using a laptop computer. Pair with another TECH Scientific camp for a full-day camp experience including a supervised lunch. Full-day campers receive a supervised lunch break from noon-1pm. Pair with WeDo LEGO® Meets Scratch Intro for July 9-13; and with Play Soccer for July 23-27 for a full-day camp experience with supervised lunch (noon-1pm). TECH Scientific: WeDo LEGO® Play Soccer (5-7 yrs)
This camp is a perfect mixture of fun and learning, using LEGO® WeDo robots. Using LEGO® bricks, build a goal scorer, goalkeeper, and an airplane pulling a banner and cheerful fans. Learn how to program and operate your creations using a laptop computer. Bring a nut-free snack and beverage. Register with another TECH Scientific Camp to make a full-day camp and receive a supervised lunch break from noon-1pm. Pair with Adventure Stories for June 18-22 and with Amazing Mechanisms for July 23-27 for a full-day camp experience with supervised lunch (noon-1pm). Tech Scientific: WeDo LEGO® Meets Scratch Intro (5-7 yrs)
Learn basic coding skills with Scratch and use them to code WeDo LEGO® Robotics. Come build structures and objects with the Legos they love, and bring them to life by coding the actions using Scratch. This class is a great way to extend your love for LEGO® and gain an intro into the world of coding. Pair with TECH Scientific WeDo LEGO® Amazing Mechanisms for a full-day camp experience with supervised lunch (noon-1pm). $15 materials fee due at the first day of camp.

 

Play-Well TEKnologies: Intro to STEM with LEGO® (5-7 yrs)
Give your imagination a boost with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects such as cities, garbage trucks, catamarans, dinosaurs, trains, helicopters, tree houses, and a beam bridge. Design and build as never before; explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment. There are no prerequisites for this course. Pair with Jedi Engineering for June 18-22; and Ninjaneering for July 2-6 and Aug 20-24 for a full-day camp experience.

Jedi Engineering Using LEGO®
Young Jedis (section .801): The Force Awakens in this introductory engineering course for young Jedi! Explore engineering principles by designing and building projects such as LEGO® X-Wings, R2 Units, Energy Catapults, Defense Turrets, and Settlements from a galaxy far, far away. Create motorized and architectural projects with imagination and engineering to defeat the Empire! Pair with Play-Well Tek: Intro to STEM with LEGO® for June 18-22 for a full-day camp experience.
Jedi Master Engineering (sections .851-.853): 
The Force Awakens in this advanced engineering course for young Jedi! Discover key engineering concepts such as gear trains, worm drives, pneumatics, and eccentric motion. Build LEGO® X-Wings, AT-AT walkers, Pod Racers, Star Destroyers, Cloud Cities, Settlements, Fortresses, and other complex machines and structures from a galaxy far, far away. Bring a nut-free snack and beverage. Pair with STEM Challenge for June 25-29, Aug 6 10, or Aug 27-31 for a full-day camp experience.

Play-Well TEKnologies: Mine, Craft & Build Games w/LEGO® (5-12 yrs)
Bring Minecraft to life using LEGO®! Resourcefulness, creativity and cooperation come together in this unique building adventure game. Campers, come have a blast, even without any prior experience with Minecraft or LEGO®! Roll the dice to mine for resources, craft tools, use these resources to build special items to help in your adventures and watch out for Creepers! This ultimate LEGO® Minecraft experience is an original game designed by Play- Well instructors, using game play elements and characters inspired by the popular Minecraft video game. Bring a nut-free snack and beverage.

Play-Well TEKnologies: Ninjaneering with LEGO® (5-7 yrs)
Enter the world of Ninjago and become an apprentice Ninjaneer! Learn the way of Spinjitzu, build the Fire Temple, race Skull Trucks, and encounter the mighty Dragon! Imagine and build unique and fun LEGO® projects with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor while exploring the fantasy world of Ninjago. Pair with Intro to STEM for July 2-6 or Aug 20-24 for a full-day camp experience.

Play-Well TEKnologies: JediCraft Games using LEGO® (5-12 yrs)
Mine, craft, and build the Star Wars universe using LEGO® parts! Roll the dice to gather Jedi resources. These Play-Well games use LEGO® materials and are inspired by the Minecraft tablet game and the Star Wars fantasy setting. JediCraft Adventure Game: Build a Pod Racer, craft a Droid, or create the Treehouse Village of Endor! This is a novice Play-Well game. JediCraft Survival Game: Build a Starship, craft Light Sabers, and use the Force to survive Empire attacks. This is an advanced Play-Well game.

Bricks4Kidz LEGO®: Robotics Coding and More Camp (7-12 yrs)
Do you want to start learning about computer science and coding? Do you hope robotics is in your future? This fun camp is set up to be an engaging and entertaining introduction to computer coding and robotics. Using fun formats including LEGO® WeDo 2.0, Ozobots, Wonder Workshops Dash and Dot and more, we engage in fun, educational activities. $30 computer fee required per camper. Pair with Brick Detective Mysteries Camp or Brick City Construction Camp for July 23-27; with Brick Pirate Adventures Camp for Aug 27-31 for a full-day with supervised lunch hour (noon-1pm).

Play-Well TEKnologies: Ninjaneering Masters with LEGO® (7-12 yrs)
Master the world of Ninjago by becoming a Ninjaneer! Tame the Ice Dragon, motorize your Blade Cycle, design the Dark Fortress, and hone your Spinjitzu battle skills! In this advanced LEGO® camp, Ninjaneering masters learn real world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture while exploring the fantasy world of Ninjago. Pair with STEM Challenge for July 23-27 or Aug 13-17 for a full-day camp experience.

Play-Well TEKnologies: STEM Challenge with LEGO® (7-12 yrs)
Gear up your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as: forklifts, houseboats, mini-golf courses, and the London Tower Bridge. Design and build as never before. Explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment. There are no prerequisites for this course. TECH Scientific: LEGO® Robotics EV3 Sea World Missions (7-12 yrs)
Come design and program robots to protect the ocean and ocean life by releasing a dolphin into the ocean, fixing a broken pipeline, and maintaining an oil platform. Enjoy using LEGO® Robotics and computers to learn principles of robotics, computer programming, and teamwork. Engineering for Kids believes children are natural engineers, and we inspire to create the next generation of Engineers! Bring a nut-free lunch (full-day only) and snack (half- and full-day) and reusable water bottle. Pair with Envirobots for Aug 6-10; with Robot Adventures for Aug 27-31 for a full-day camp experience with supervised lunch (noon-1pm).

TECH Scientific: LEGO® Robotics EV3- Bot Olympiad (7-12 yrs)
Themes include Athletic Training Center, basketball, hockey, tug of war, sprint, and wrestling. Bring a nut-free lunch (full-day only) and snack (half- and full-day) and reusable water bottle. Pair with Search & Rescue for June 25-29; with Doctors & Surgeons for Aug 13-17 for a full-day camp experience with supervised lunch (noon-1pm).

TECH Scientific: LEGO® Robotics EV3- Envirobots (7-12 yrs)
Using the LEGO® EV3 platform, build and program robots to complete a different task or theme each day! Utilize the color sensor to pick up ambient light, learn about solar energy and manage stored energy. Program a robot to be efficient in reaching a goal; simulate how a solar-powered robot might act. Use advanced programming modules to record information in your robot while reinforcing the concept of efficiency in logistics. Bring a nut-free lunch (full-day only) and snack (half- and full-day) and reusable water bottle. Pair with Doctors & Surgeons for July 16-20; with Sea World Missions for Aug 6-10 for a full-day camp experience with supervised lunch (noon-1pm).

TECH Scientific: LEGO® Robotics EV3 DaVinci Designs (7-12 yrs)
Using the LEGO® EV3 platform, build and program robots to complete a different task or theme each day! DaVinci and Newton’s Toy Box Approach the designs of Leonardo daVinci, taking a unique perspective by applying robotics principles using the LEGO® EV3 platform to the challenges daVinci faced. Create a launcher, then apply the principles of kinetic energy and friction to make a glider fly. Use robots to automate drawing tasks to efficiently reproduce the daVinci’s artistic designs while learning about mass production and printing presses. Lessons include: Water Well, Gear Glider, Mona Lisa EVolv3d and more! Bring a nut-free lunch (full-day only) and snack (halfand full-day) and reusable water bottle. TECH Scientific: LEGO® EV3 Robotics Adventures (7-12 yrs)
Discover the fantastic programming possibilities with LEGO® EV3 robots! Using LEGO® EV3 software, learn basic and advanced programming. Start with basic programming to move and steer a robot rover. Quickly advance to learn loops and incorporating touch and ultra-sonic sensors in your programming. Challenges include programming a robot to run the bases on a baseball diamond and using a color sensor to follow a path. Pair with TECH Scientific LEGO® EV3 Sea World Missions for Aug 27-31 for a full-day camp experience with supervised lunch (noon-1pm).

TECH Scientific: LEGO® Robotics EV3 - Doctors & Surgeons (7-12 yrs)
Enjoy an introduction into the world of not only building but also programming basic robots. Throughout this course, enjoy exploring different ways in which a robot could be utilized in the medical field. Topics include Medical Intern, Setting a Bone, Harmful Bacteria, Administering Aid, Robo-therapy and Robo-operation. Pair with Envirobots for July 16-20; with Bot Olympiad for Aug 13-17 for a full-day camp experience with supervised lunch (noon- 1pm). Bring a nut-free lunch and reusable water bottle.

TECH Scientific: LEGO® Robotics EV3 Search & Rescue (7-12 yrs)
Using the LEGO® EV3 platform, build and program robots to complete a different theme each day! Themes include Earthquake, Searching for Survivors, Avalanche, Broken Bridge, Stranded in the Woods, and Apocalypse! Inclusion

Howard County Recreation and Parks strives to make programs available to all individuals with disabilities and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  Inclusion Services provides a variety of supports to individuals with disabilities who choose to participate in any recreation program or class offered by the department. Inclusion accommodations may include financial assistance, accessibility, companions, additional training, medical, and interpretive services for the deaf or hearing impaired.
Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to register for general recreation programs of their choice. Howard County Recreation and Parks Department has developed an inclusion process to better accommodate citizens with disabilities. To ensure that we meet your program needs, please call 410-313-4628 or 410-313-4708 at least two weeks before the program begins.

The Inclusion Process:
Look through the brochure and find a class or program you like.
Register for the program. Let us know what you need to participate on the registration form or when you call to the person taking the registration.
Examples may include effective communication for the deaf or hearing impaired, improved signage, activity modification, additional staff training, companions, accessible equipment and facility features, and/or individualized planning for program or class participation. 

Therapeutic Recreation Staff will contact you to discuss strategies for inclusion and to offer an opportunity to share additional accommodation information. You will be asked to complete this confidential survey to help us better serve you.
Each request is assessed on an individual case by case basis. Additional information may be needed to address the request.
Modifications or accommodations will be made as needed.
