About Fatal Overdose Data

Fatal overdose data are provided by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Vital Statistics Administration (VSA) of the Maryland Department of Health. FATAL OVERDOSE DATA ARE PRELIMINARY AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE. Finalized annual data may be found on VSA’s website here: https://health.maryland.gov/vsa/Pages/overdose.aspx.

Important Note: Most fatal overdoses involve the simultaneous use of more than one substance. The individual substance categories shown here report the total number of times a substance was involved in a fatal overdose. The sum total of deaths related to individual substance categories does not equal the total number of fatalities for the time frame presented.
