About

Howard County Recreation & Parks offers dance programs and, camps for all ages. Regardless of your experience, we offer programs and camps for beginner, intermediate and advanced level dancers. Dance styles range from Ballet; Jazz; Tap; Creative Movement; Hip-Hop; Ballroom; International; Line Dance and Swing. We offer programs during the daytime, after-school, evening, and on weekends. Camps run on a weekly basis, half-day and full-day options available.

NEW! Ballerina’s & Barbie by Dance Connections, Inc. (3-5 yrs)

Does your little dancer love Barbie movies? This is the camp you have been looking for! Twirl and paint like Rapunzel, dance with an enchanted Nutcracker prince from Barbie and the Nutcracker, float and fly like the white swans from Barbie and Swan Lake, and practice your princess and jazz pop moves from Barbie’s Princess and Popstars! Each day focuses on a different Barbie story with ballet, jazz, and crafts centered around the theme. Wear dance attire including a leotard or dance dress and footed tights for ease of movement. Ballet or jazz shoes are required. Bring a nut-free snack and drink each day. 

Let it Go! Frozen Dance Camp by Dance Connections (3-5 yrs)
Chill out in the heat of the summer with this fun, Frozen-themed camp focusing on the story and songs that we love so much! Create fun, winter shapes and dances, twirl through the castle like Anna, play in the imaginary snow, build a snowman, and have a fun snowball fight! Participate in ballet, tap and creative movement classes. Enjoy crafts, play and snack time. Wear dance attire for ease of movement such as leotard or dance dress and tights. Leather ballet and tap shoes required. Bring a nut-free snack & drink each day.

NEW! Moana’s Hawaiian Luau Dance Adventure by Dance Connections, Inc. (3-5 yrs)
Moana, hula, Leis, Limbo, beach balls and ballet! Dancers enjoy daily luau fun specially planned for this Moana-themed camp. Learn a water dance and a little hula, experience fun obstacle courses to find the heart of tafiti, enjoy a limbo challenge, tap to the sounds of the islands, and do a beautiful ballet leap as Moana sings “How Far I’ll Go”. Participate in ballet, tap and creative dance classes each day as well as making fun Hawaiian crafts and enjoying snack and playtime with friends. Wear dance attire including a leotard or a dance dress, and footed tights. Ballet and tap shoes are required. Bring a nut-free snacks and drink to camp each day.

Princess Dance Camp by Dance Connections, Inc. (3-5 yrs)
Twirl your way to becoming a dancing princess! Come and learn about your favorite princesses, including Cinderella, Jasmine, Elena of Avalor and more! Each day focuses on a different princess and her story, with dance classes and crafts centered on that princess. Participate in ballet and tap classes as well as craft, play, and snack time. Wear dance attire such as a leotard or dance dress and footed tights. Leather ballet shoes and tap shoes required. Bring a nut-free snack and drink each day.

NEW! TV Friends Dance Camp by Dance Connections, Inc. (3-8 yrs)
This fun and exciting new camp explores dance using themes from your child’s favorite TV shows including PAW Patrol, Elena of Avalor, Vampirina, Sophia the First and more! Each day focuses on a different show. The stories and fun inspire us during our ballet, tap, and creative dance classes. Camp also includes themed crafts, snack, and play time. Wear dance attire including a leotard or dance dress, footed tights and bring ballet and tap shoes. Bring a nut-free snack and drink each day.

NEW! Action Adventure Dance Camp by Kinetics Dance Theater (3 1/2-6 yrs)
Get ready to slide, pounce, spiral and explode through a week of storybook adventures. Each day features a different short story, such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, followed by dance classes featuring creative movement, ballet and tap. Please wear loose-fitting clothing for ease of movement and bring leather ballet shoes and tap shoes. Bring a nut-free snack and drink.

Baila! Dora, Baila! With Sandra Duerr (3 1/2-6 yrs)
Come to school with Dora and her friends! Sing songs, dance ballet, learn beginning Spanish and practice manners. Study different Spanish artists each day while creating your own masterpieces! Explore Spanish culture, customs, make new friends and have lots of fun! Show off your manners at a fiesta de verano, art show and a spectacular dance performance on the last day. Wear comfortable clothing for ease of movement and bring a smock for art. Leather ballet and tap shoes required. Bring a nut-free snack and drink each day. Full-day students, bring a nut-free bag lunch and drink each day. For full day, pair with Fancy Dancy Camp. Full day includes a supervised lunch hour at no additional cost

Ballerina Basics Camp by Kinetics Dance Theater (3 1/2-9 yrs)
Boys and girls, this week’s camp is all about dance! Dancers, take daily ballet classes in addition to creative movement and tap classes and enjoy activities and crafts devoted to building ballet knowledge, balance, coordination and presence. Wear dance attire; bring ballet and tap shoes and a plain white t-shirt to decorate. Bring a nut-free snack & drink each day.

Bon Voyage! Dance Camp by Kinetics Dance Theater (3 1/2-9 yrs)
Take a quest around the world! Stop in France to learn about ballet’s beginning and in Africa to explore the world of Modern dance. Don’t forget stops in Broadway and LA! Dancers, experience a variety of dance styles as you venture through the world of dance. Boys, wear loose fitting comfortable clothing for ease of movement. Girls, wear a leotard and footless tights or leggings. Bring ballet shoes and sneakers. Bring a nut free snack & drink each day.

Dance Lab Discovery (3 1/2-9 yrs)
Explore how balance, gravity, water movement, and science integrate with dance. Each day features two dance classes fusing daily crafts and science experiments with creative movement. Put your energy into motion while balancing kinesthetic awareness. Boys, wear loose-fitting comfortable clothing for ease of movement. Girls, wear leotard and footless tights or leggings. Bring a nut-free snack and drink.

Superhero Training: A Boys Movement Camp by Kinetics Dance Theater (3 1/2-9 yrs)
Join in on a mission toward creativity, strength, agility, coordination and fun! Two dance classes are offered each day, one creative movement and one specialty class such as rhythm, hip hop, tap dance, tumbling or capoeira (a form of martial arts that combines the elements of dance and music). Each day time is devoted to craft activities and transforming imagination into action. Please wear loose-fitting clothing for ease of movement. Bring sneakers and a plain white t-shirt to decorate. Bring a nut-free snack and drink.

NEW! Fancy Dancy Camp with Sandra Duerr (3 1/2-6 yrs)
Make new friends at our fancy, dancy camp. Dance like butterflies, go to the spa and get your nails done, learn ballet, make fancy crafts and artwork to fill our own museum, dress up and walk the runway, learn new fancy vocabulary, and sing songs. Wear comfortable clothing for ease of movement and bring a smock for art. Leather ballet and tap shoes required. Bring a nut-free snack and drink each day. For full day, pair with Baila, Dora, Baila! Full day includes a supervised lunch hour at no additional cost. Full-day students, bring a nut-free bag lunch and drink each day.

NEW! Little Ballerina Camp by Misako Ballet Studio (3 1/2-6 yrs)
Budding ballerinas, participate in ballet classes, decorate dance-related props, and learn short dances from several ballets especially suited to your age group like Cinderella, Carnival of the Animals, A Midsummer Nights’ Dream, and Sleeping Beauty. Enjoy story and snack time and an informal performance on the last day. Wear a leotard, white ankle socks and leather ballet shoes with elastic strap. Bring a plain white t-shirt for the craft, a nut-free snack and water bottle.

NEW! Once Upon a Ballet by Kinetics Dance Theater (3 1/2-9 yrs)
This camp allows the magic of the great classical ballets to come to life and ignite your inspiration for dance. The famous story ballets, such as Swan Lake and Giselle, enchant you while dancing to the music of Tchaikovsky and leaping into the adventure behind the beauty of each ballet. Daily crafts take on themes from the storybook ballet of the day. Please wear loose-fitting clothing for ease of movement and leather ballet shoes. Bring a nut-free snack and drink. 

NEW! Under the Sea Dance Camp by Misako Ballet Studio (3 1/2-6 yrs)
Dive in and explore life beneath the waves through movement! Young dancers, come participate in ballet classes, create props, and learn creative dances about fish, crabs, mermaids/mermen, and more! There is also story and snack time, and an informal performance on the last day. Wear a leotard, white ankle socks and ballet shoes. Bring a plain white t-shirt for the craft, a nut-free snack, and reusable water bottle each day.

Barbie’s World of Dance with Sandra Duerr (4-8 yrs)
Dance your way through Barbie’s stories like Rapunzel, Princess and the Pauper, Fairytopia, Mermaidia, Magic of the Pegasus, 12 Dancing Princesses, The Three Musketeers, and Swan Lake! Bring your Barbie along to dance and learn with you. Family and friends are invited to enjoy a short performance on the last day! Wear comfortable clothing for ease of movement (ex: leotard/tights or leggings/top). Leather ballet & tap shoes required. Bring a nut-free snack & drink each day. For a full day, pair with Moana and Friends. Full day includes a supervised lunch hour at no additional cost. (Full-day participants, bring a nut-free lunch & drink each day.)

Dance Around the World with Sandra Duerr (4-8 yrs)
Travel the world on your dancing feet as you learn the rhythms and movements from countries near and far! Learn ballet and tap basics. Learn dances from places like Hawaii, Africa, Spain, and Ireland. Create festive crafts from places you “visit”. Family and friends are invited to enjoy a short performance on the last day! Wear comfortable clothing for ease of movement such a leotard/tights or leggings/top. Leather ballet & tap shoes required. Bring a nut-free snack and drink each day. For full day, pair 801 and 802 with Royal Dance Academy; 803 with Moana & Friends. Full day includes a supervised lunch hour at no additional cost. Full-day students, bring a nut-free bag lunch & drink each day.

NEW! Little Princess Dance Camp by Misako Ballet Studio (4-6 yrs)
Grab your tiaras and dance slippers and come to Misako Beats for five days of dancing princesses! Each day, explore the magical world of ballet and creative movement through music, crafts, stories, and enchanted games. The final day concludes with an informal performance and light refreshments. Please wear leotard, tights, and ballet shoes to camp and bring a plain white t-shirt on the third day for the craft, a nut-free snack, and water bottle.

NEW! Moana & Friends with Sandra Duerr (4-8 yrs)
Join Moana from Hawaii and her Friends, Elena of Avalor, Merida from Scotland, Mulan from China, and Jasmine from India. Learn about each princess, her culture, and her country through music, song, art and dance. Wear comfortable clothing for ease of movement such a leotard/tights or leggings/top. Leather ballet & tap shoes required. Bring a nut-free snack and drink each day. For full day, pair 801 and 802 with Barbie's World of Dance; 803 with Dance Around the World. Full day includes a supervised lunch hour at no additional cost. Full-day students, bring a nut-free bag lunch & drink each day.

Royal Dance Academy with Sandra Duerr (4-8 yrs)
Follow us where the princesses learn to dance! Enjoy tutus, tiaras, magic wands, glitz and glamour! Learn the history of ballet and tap, warm-up exercises, and how to properly act like a prince or princess. Ariel, Belle, Cinderella and the rest of the princesses share their music and stories with us. Every day features a different theme. Show off what you’ve learned on the last day, when family and friends are invited to enjoy a Royal Recital! Wear comfortable clothing for ease of movement such a leotard/tights or leggings/top. Leather ballet & tap shoes required. Bring a nut-free snack and drink each day. For full day, pair with Dance Around the World! Full day includes a supervised lunch hour at no additional cost. Full-day students, bring a nut-free bag lunch & drink each day.

Tinker Bell’s Pixie Hollow Dance Camp by Dance Connections, Inc (4-7 yrs)
Be free and fancy! Fly like Tinker Bell, Periwinkle, Rosetta, Vidia, Silvermist, Fawn and more! Each day focuses on a different Pixie Hollow story including The Legend of the Never Beast, The Great Fairy Rescue, and The Secret of the Wings! Participate in ballet, tap and creative dance classes as well as craft, play, and snack time. Wear dance attire such as a leotard or dance dress and footed tights. Leather ballet shoes and tap shoes required. Bring a nut-free snack and drink each day.

Dancing Descendants Camp by Dance Connections, Inc (6-10 yrs)
Do you love the story of the Descendants? Cast a dancing spell with Mel, dance with a magic mirror like Evie, learn some fun cheers like Audrey, and enjoy jazz and hip hop like Lonnie. Each day, explore and bring to life the fun characters and stories of their famous parents with some jazz and hip hop and tap classes, fun crafts, student choreography and free time. Jazz and tap shoes are required. Please wear comfortable workout clothing for ease of movement and bring a nut free snack and drink each day.

NEW! Yoga & Dance Camp by Dance Connections, Inc. (5-9 yrs)
Come learn yoga poses and dance steps inspired by animals, plants, constellations and more! During Yoga classes, Radiant Child Yoga certified instructor, Jen Aversa guides you through centering, asana (yoga poses), creative stories, and relaxation and breathing techniques. Ballet and creative dance classes continue the fun and exploration expanding on the themes weaved from the yoga classes. Dance and yoga together fosters self-confidence, selfempowerment, positive attitude, mindfulness and focus, self-calming abilities, and brain-body coordination. Craft, snack, and play time with friends adds to the fun. Wear exercise attire for ease of movement. Yoga mats and ballet shoes are required. Bring a nut-free snack and drink with you each day.

NEW! Superhero Dance Camp by Misako Ballet Studio (6-8 yrs)
It’s Superhero week at Misako Beats! Get ready to test your skills as we fly through five days of ballet, jazz and choreographic improvisation geared to empower younger dancers. Each day, engage in a new concept of what it means to be a Superhero and explore their powers of creativity through crafts, games, and development of short dance phrases. Dress-up as your favorite persona on the final day of camp as we concluded with an informal performance and light refreshments. Please wear a leotard, jazz pants/leggings, and ballet or jazz shoes. Please also bring a plain white t-shirt on the third day for craft, a nut-free snack, and water bottle.

NEW! Ballerina Builders: A Dancing LEGO® Camp by Dance Connections, Inc (7-10 yrs)
Calling all dancers who love to build with LEGOs and love the LEGO® movies. This camp incorporates ballet, jazz, and creative dance based on LEGO® movies and LEGO® building sets. Dance classes, crafts, and playtime (including building LEGOs) are included in this fun camp! Wear dance or workout attire for ease of movement and bring a nut-free snack and a drink each day. Ballet or jazz shoes are required.

NEW! Dance Solutions Camp with Nysia (7-10 yrs)
Carter Dancers, explore urban dance fusion using a combination of jazz and hip hop! Learn new steps each day and make new friends while learning about coordination and body movement. Wear clothes for ease of movement and close-toed shoes. Bring a nut-free snack and a drink each day. There is a short performance on the last day.

Hip Hop Fusion Camp by Misako Ballet Studio (7-11 yrs)
Do you want to learn to dance like Justin Bieber or Selena Gomez? Come dance with us! Hip Hop Fusion Camp encourages you to explore urban movement and contemporary dance culture. This energetic camp builds stamina, agility, rhythm, and coordination while being exposed to dancing, fitness training, discipline, making new friends, and having fun! Wear fitness clothing and sneakers. Bring a nut-free snack, water bottle and towel each day, and a plain, white t-shirt with your name on the tag for the craft. On the last day, family and friends are invited to an informal performance at the end of the day.

Senior Tap Classics- Ever dream of dancing like Ginger Rogers or Fred Astaire? It's never too late to start! This beginning-level tap class progresses slowly and is designed for adults. Wear comfortable clothing, grab some tap shoes and join us!

Inclusion accommodations may include financial assistance, accessibility, companions, additional training, medical, and interpretive services for the deaf or hearing impaired.

The Inclusion Process:
Look through the brochure and find a class or program you like.
Register for the program. Let us know what you need to participate on the registration form or when you call to the person taking the registration.
Examples may include effective communication for the deaf or hearing impaired, improved signage, activity modification, additional staff training, companions, accessible equipment and facility features, and/or individualized planning for program or class participation. 
Therapeutic Recreation Staff will contact you to discuss strategies for inclusion and to offer an opportunity to share additional accommodation information. You will be asked to complete this confidential survey to help us better serve you.
Each request is assessed on an individual case by case basis. Additional information may be needed to address the request.
Modifications or accommodations will be made as needed.
