ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The first phase of a two-phase Howard County construction project to improve stormwater drainage in the vicinity of US 1 (Washington Boulevard), Cedar Avenue and Georgia Avenue in Jessup is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, March 6. Phase 1 construction will include the installation of new curb, along with storm drain piping and inlets, from Georgia Avenue south to US 1. The construction will connect the new system to the existing pipe crossing under US 1 behind 8040 Washington Boulevard. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late April.

Motorists can expect a three-week closure of the far right southbound travel lane, beginning on or about Monday, February 27, until pipe work is complete. Southbound traffic on US 1 will be allowed to turn right onto Cedar Avenue. Northbound traffic will not be permitted to turn left onto Cedar Avenue from US 1. Northbound motorists will follow a clearly-marked detour using Lincoln Drive. Additionally, the sidewalk adjacent to 8040 Washington Boulevard southbound will be closed during this two-week period.

Phase 2 is expected to begin in the summer of 2017 and will involve additional storm drain improvements between Lincoln Drive and Wye Avenue.
