ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County’s Office of Transportation and Department of Public Works will co-host an information session on Wednesday Nov. 2 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Columbia/Ellicott City Room of the George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Drive in Ellicott City to discuss improvements to the existing bicycle and pedestrian bridge over US 29 between Downtown Columbia and Oakland Mills (Capital Project B-3863).

The design options are intended to provide a more attractive, open experience on the bridge, together with lighting improvements and enhanced security features. The bridge provides a convenient and safe crossing of US 29 between Oakland Mills and Downtown Columbia for pedestrians and cyclists. It is heavily used and is a contributing element to ongoing development and redevelopment in Downtown Columbia and the Oakland Mills Village Center. The pathway approaches on both sides of the bridge were recently upgraded.

County staff will present concept plans for improvements to the existing bicycle and pedestrian bridge over US 29 between Downtown Columbia and Oakland Mills, and will be available to answer questions and gather public comments.

Those unable to attend the meeting who would like to view the concepts and/or have questions should contact Mr. David Cookson with the Office of Transportation at 410-313-3842 or email

An interpreter for people who are deaf or hard of hearing will be available if requested seven working days prior to the meeting. Please call the Department of Community Resources and Services at 410-313-6400 (voice) or use Relay at 7-1-1, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
