Executive Kittleman hosts “HoCoGro” compost giveaway at Alpha Ridge Landfill

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman will host a compost giveaway at the Alpha Ridge Landfill this Saturday, May 2. The first 100 vehicles to enter the landfill will be offered a 10-gallon, reusable tub of “HoCoGro” compost. Howard County has 5,000 households participating in food scrap collection. Those food scraps are being made into compost at the landfill and Howard County is now selling the compost under the brand name “HoCoGro.” Howard County is a leader in food scrap collection and recycling, and annually, 600 tons of material is being diverted from landfills.

WHAT:
Compost giveaway to highlight sustainability efforts and the success of Howard County’s food scrap collection program. Food scraps are being used to make compost at the Alpha Ridge Landfill and the County is now selling that compost.
