National Night Out
Tuesday, August 4, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
Vantage Point, 5430 Vantage Point Road (park), Columbia

Join Howard County Police Department personnel in the park at 5430 Vantage Point Road, Columbia, as they kick-off the county’s National Night Out celebration. The evening is designed to heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention, generate support for local anti-crime programs, and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. Police personnel will also be visiting other National Night Out sites around the county. A list of registered parties can be found on the home page at

Sunset Serenades
Wednesday evenings through August 12, 7:00 p.m.
Centennial Park South, 10000 Route 108, Ellicott City

Wednesdays through August 12th, enjoy this popular summer concert series. The following groups are scheduled to appear in August:

  • August 5 – Soul Island Rebels (Eclectic Blues Funk & Roots Music)
  • August 12 – Higher Hands (Funky Soul Fusion Music)

The series is free. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, a picnic supper, rent a canoe or paddleboat and enjoy music in the park.

Travelin’ Bands
Various dates/locations through August 14, 7:00 p.m.

Enjoy these free concerts. The following groups are scheduled to appear in August:

  • August 4 – Ocho de Bastos (Latin Rock Music), North Laurel Community Center, 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road, Laurel
  • August 14 – Nighthawks (Blues & Roots Music), Rockburn Branch Park West, 6105 Rockburn Branch Park Road, Elkridge

Coffee with a Cop
Thursday, August 6, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
McDonalds, 9261 All Saints Road, Laurel

The community is invited to join the Howard County Police Department on the first Thursday of each month for “Coffee with a Cop.” This community outreach program will offer an opportunity for officers and community members to come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues and build relationships one cup of coffee at a time. Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.

Senior Day at the Howard County Fair
Tuesday, August 11, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Howard County Fairgrounds, 2210 Fairgrounds Road, West Friendship

Fairgoers, age 62 and up, are invited to come on out and take advantage of FREE admission, entertainment and exhibits for Senior Day at the Howard County Fair. Enjoy bingo games and prizes, healthy aging programs, exercise and cooking demonstrations and more.
