Styrofoam Recycling


Howard County Recycling partners with Dart Container Corporation to collect and process Styrofoam™ #6 from the Alpha Ridge Landfill. Styrofoam™ #6 is the reprocessed in Leola, Pennsylvania into products such as picture frames, molding, building insulation and other consumer goods.

Styrofoam™ #6 is ONLY accepted for recycling at the Alpha Ridge Landfill Convenience Center, open Monday-Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2350 Marriottsville Road. Styrofoam™ CANNOT be placed in curbside recycling bins.

Items Accepted

White foam packaging, clean cups, trays, food containers and egg cartons (all colors), all marked with the number “6” in the recycling symbol. Foam items that have been in contact with food or drinks should be rinsed.

Items NOT Accepted

Foam packing peanuts (accepted at many retail shipping centers); straws, lids, tape or stickers; foam insulation materials; clamshell or non-foam #6 containers. Check out these unaccepted items (click to zoom):
