Construction & Demolition Debris (C&D)

Whether you have a huge renovation or a small home project, reuse is best! If you can't reuse, recycle your material using the suggestions below. Only as a last resort, dispose items in a landfill.

Pre-Demolition

Check out the EPA's Recommended Practices for Pre-Demolition Removal of Mercury-Containing Devices from Residential Buildings.

Reuse

Don't trash good items! There are many opportunities for usable building supplies:

The Loading Dock at ARL

For reusable items...the Loading Dock at Alpha Ridge Landfill (2350 Marriottsville Road, Marriottsville, 21104) collects new and reusable building materials. You can also drop-off items at The Loading Dock location in Baltimore or call 410-558-3625 to schedule a pickup. Visit www.loadingdock.org for details.

Items Accepted: banisters, bathtubs, cabinets, countertops, doors, hardware, lighting fixtures, lumber, molding, plumbing fixtures, shelving, stairs, toilets, windows and other building materials.

NOTE: Howard County and the Loading Dock reserve the right to refuse any materials deemed unfit. If you have any questions about what is acceptable, please call THE LOADING DOCK at 410-558-3625.

Don't have reusable items? Residents disposing of construction, demolition and home improvement material as trash will be directed to weigh in at the scalehouse and will be charged $80/ton ($4 per 100 pounds) of waste. This includes deliveries mixed with household waste.

Recycle

Check out the Builders' Guide to Reuse and Recycling and the Howard County C&D Recycling Guide. Visit The Recycling Center in Laurel or MDRecycles for a local directory of recycling and disposal resources.
