Commission on Disabilities

The Howard County Commission on Disabilities was established by statute in 1988 to: 

  • Increase public awareness of disability-related issues, 
  • Serve in an advisory capacity on County Government programs, policies, and budget, and
  • Assist County Government to ensure compliance with the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

The commission’s mission is facilitated through the efforts of its members and its subcommittees.  

NEW! Howard County Commission on Disability Issues seeks nominees for annual awards program

Nomination forms are now available for the 2018 Commission on Disabilities Annual Awards program. These awards recognize outstanding efforts that advance full participation in community life for all residents, while promoting the spirit and intent of the Americans with Disabilities Act and other disability rights laws. To be eligible, nominees must live, work or conduct business in Howard County. The deadline for nominations is Monday, August 20, 2018. Download a nomination packet.
