About Recreation and Parks Month

Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Recreation and Parks Month. This July we are encouraging you and your community to get up and get active!

Everything from workouts and wellness to getting wet and at the pool or even wild with nature – you just can’t help but have fun this July, all while expressing the many valuable benefits of recreation and parks!

2013 Schedule of Events

Howard County Recreation and Parks will offer many free events throughout the month to showcase its award-winning parks and facilities and provide fun activities for the whole family. Check back as more events and dates will be included. 

All month: Robinson Nature Center
Temporary Robinson Nature Center tattoos. Ask for them at the front desk during Nature Center hours (Wed-Sat, 9 AM–5 PM; Sun, Noon–5 PM).

July 3: Robinson Nature Center
Free admission to the Robinson Nature Center for individuals and families (9 AM-5 PM).

July 3: Centennial Park South
Sunset Serenade Concert from 7-8:30 PM featuring Electric Brigade, the U.S. Naval Academy Rock Band.

July 4: Columbia Town Center Lakefront
July 4th Festival & Fireworks. Click here for more information.

July 10: Centennial Park South
Sunset Serenade Concert from 7-8:30 PM featuring The Grandsons Jr., Americana for Kids. Special treats while they last!

July 10: Robinson Nature Center
Free admission to the Robinson Nature Center for individuals and families (9 AM-5 PM).

July 12: Gary J. Arthur Community Center
Traveling Bands Concert from 7-8:30 PM featuring U.S. Navy Band Country Current, a military country ensemble.

July 13: Robinson Nature Center
Free Discovery Days Music in Nature Series. First program is 10–10:45 AM, second program is 11-11:45 AM. Each program is available on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 15 children and their adult chaperone.

July 17: Robinson Nature Center
Free admission to the Robinson Nature Center for individuals and families (9 AM-5 PM).

July 17: Centennial Park South
Sunset Serenade Concert from 7-8:30 PM featuring David Bach, jazz musician.

July 23: Warfield's Pond
Jr. Angler Backyard Fishing Clinic from 6-8 PM. Join us for an introduction to freshwater fishing. Learn about fishing techniques, gear, knot tying, casting and freshwater fish ID. Open to all youth, 4 to 15 years old. Rods and reels are available for use, and baitis supplied. Staff are on hand to assist young anglers. Limited Space Available! Advanced registration required. July 24: Centennial Park South
Sunset Serenade Concert from 7-8:30 PM featuring Bad Influence, a blues band.

July 24: Robinson Nature Center
Free admission to the Robinson Nature Center for individuals and families (9 AM-5 PM).

July 26: Schooley Mill Park
Traveling Bands Concert from 7-8:30 PM featuring Victoria Vox, Uke-Pop/folk.

July 27: Robinson Nature Center
Free Discovery Days Music in Nature Series. First program is 10–10:45 AM, second program is 11-11:45 AM. Each program is available on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 15 children and their adult chaperone.

July 24: Centennial Park South
Sunset Serenade Concert from 7-8:30 PM featuring Ivy Rose, an all-female alternative/pop/rock band.
