Police: Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA)
The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004 allows qualified active and retired law enforcement officers to carry a concealed firearm nationwide.
The law requires two hours of classroom training and successful completion of two qualification courses. Before any applicant is issued a LEOSA photo ID from the department, he or she must successfully complete the training and qualifying courses and complete and submit an application. A background check is conducted on all applicants. Applicants must re-apply annually.
All applicants, including those already certified under LEOSA, must fill out the HCPD Application for Certification to Carry a Concealed Firearm annually.
