WOMEN, INFANT & CHILDREN'S PROGRAM WIC is a federally funded nutrition education program with healthy supplemental foods. The supplemental foods are purchased with WIC checks at local grocery stores. It is also a referral program for other health agencies. It provides services to pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children under the age of five. Application for enrollment Eligibility is determined at an appointment made by calling 410-313-7510. The person to be enrolled must be come to the appointment. Studies show that: WOMEN – Participants in the WIC program have longer pregnancies with fewer low birth-weight babies and infant’s deaths. Participants have healthier diets during pregnancy. Breastfeeding participants receive counseling and support through the WIC program. INFANTS - Infants weigh more at birth. WIC infant’s mothers receive advice on starting solid foods and support for breastfeeding. CHILDREN - Children enrolled in WIC have less incidence of anemia. They are screened and referred for health care if they have growth problems or health problems. What to bring to a WIC Appointment:
