Gary Arthur, DirectorWelcome to Spring/Summer 2008

We hope this season's programs will help you and your family discover activities and programs that will improve overall fitness and/or wellness. To help you get started, we’re pleased to continue our Healthy Heart Program offerings. Participants earn Step Up to Health Award dollars that can be applied to future programs – details are available on this website (see link on our homepage).

Be sure and check out the County’s upcoming “GreenFest” Celebration on Saturday April 5 at the Glenwood Community Center (see link on our homepage). The displays and activities are designed to help you learn more about our environment. Then fast forward to Recreation & Parks month in July. Watch our website for some special events we hope you’ll participate in to help us celebrate.

The demand for Recreation and Parks services and facilities continues to grow. We’re excited to announce that we’re in the design process for the Robinson Nature Center and the North Laurel Community Center and Park, and starting the design phase for Blandair Regional Park. We’re also constructing two maintenance buildings at Rockburn Branch Park and Western Regional Park and an indoor sport facility at Meadowbrook Park — the County’s first facility of this type. The construction projects are scheduled for completion this year.

I urge you and your family to take advantage of the many benefits that Recreation and Parks offers and to contact us with your ideas, suggestions and concerns. Have a great spring and summer.
