Natural Resources Management

The Natural Resources Management section provides technical assistance in the areas of park and open space land assessment and develops Integrated Natural Resource Management Plans (INRMPs) for our parklands. Each INRMP includes information and detailed descriptions of existing ecosystems, flora and fauna specific to each site. In addition, the management plans recommend habitat enhancements, best management practices, and address trail management, non-native invasive plant species, and wildlife management issues.

Habitat Stewards Training

In 2004, the Department partnered with the National Wildlife Federation and began offering Habitat Stewards™ training. Habitat Stewards™ is a volunteer training and mentoring opportunity for adults interested in wildlife, ecology, gardening, and habitat conservation. Habitat Stewards volunteers receive training to equip them with the knowledge and tools needed to help others develop wildlife habitats in backyards, schoolyards, and throughout the community.

A new class will be forming for Spring 2009. Contact Brenda Belensky (or call 410-313-4724) for more information and an application.
