Special Investigations Section

The Special Investigations Section is comprised of the Auto Theft Unit, the Robbery Unit, the Fraud/Forgery Unit and the Grand Jury Liaison/Repeat Offender Program.

The Auto Theft Unit investigates every stolen vehicle taken from or recovered in Howard County. This unit consists of detectives and a civilian Auto Theft Prevention Specialist. The Robbery Unit consists of detectives who focus soley on robbery cases in the county. The Fraud/Forgery Unit consists of detectives who investigate fraud and computer crimes.

The Grand Jury Liaison is a detective who coordinates case preparation for presentation to the county’s Grand Jury. This detective is responsible for performing background investigations for each defendant whose cases are brought before the Circuit Court to determine if they are eligible for enhanced sanctions. On occasion, this detective also testifies before the Grand Jury on behalf of the arresting officers.
