Police Explorers

Explorer Post 1952 offers young people an opportunity to learn about law enforcement and serve their community.

Law Enforcement Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and is designed to help youth gain insight into a variety of programs that offer hands-on career activities. For young men and women who are interested in careers in the field of law enforcement, Howard County Police Explorer Post 1952 offers experiential learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of adolescent youth.

Howard County Police Explorers improve their leadership ability and teamwork skills and they use these skills to their benefit as they prepare to enter college or the workforce.

The minimum qualifications required are:

  • Must be at least 14 years old and have completed the eighth grade or be 15 years old
  • Maintain at least a "C" average
  • Upstanding citizen
  • No criminal background
  • Parental permission
  • Recommendations

Duties Include:

  • Direct traffic and control parking at various county events
  • Fingerprint children at special events
  • Participate in crime prevention activities

Selected candidates will recieve:

  • Free uniforms
  • Insight into a future career in law enforcment
  • Earn community service hours for high school and college
