Howard County Police Patch

Victim Assistance Section

Few events in someone’s life are more traumatic than becoming a victim of crime. The Howard County Department of Police is sensitive to the potential emotional crisis and confusion which may occur following a criminal incident, and is committed to assisting victims through the judicial and recovery processes.

The Victim Assistance Section is staffed with trained personnel to provide crisis intervention, advocacy and support services to crime victims. Assistance includes emotional support, referral to specific provider agencies for focused follow-up services, assistance with filing court papers and monetary claims, court accompaniment, guidance through the criminal justice process and evaluation services for referral to trauma debriefing.

Timely interaction with a Victim Advocate may provide the direction required to enhance the speed and quality of healing.

FYI...

The Victim Assistance Section (VAS) is located in the Southern District.

It is staffed with two Departmental employees and supplemented with several volunteers.

If you need assistance or would like to volunteer your time and energy and help others, please call the Section Coordinator, Ms. Kathleen Masterson at 410-313-3768
