Traffic Enforcement Section

The Traffic Enforcement Section is comprised of highly skilled police officers whose training and expertise provide valuable services to the citizens of Howard County.

Some of the specific duties of TES are to:

  • Investigate and reconstruct fatal and critical injury accidents.
  • Coordinate the selective traffic enforcement and DWI countermeasure programs.
  • Organize special events (parades,festivals, funerals, etc.)
  • Conduct commercial vehicle inspections.
  • Develop public traffic safety awareness programs.
  • Motorcycle Unit.

Motor Unit

The police department has a team of motorcycle officers that represents the agency at special events, parades, funerals and other specialty details. These officers are assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Section and assist with the day-to-day operations of the section.

Community Traffic Saftey Program

The Community Traffic Safety Program (CTSP) is a grant-funded initiative designed to assess the traffic safety needs of Howard County and develop effective safety programs. The program is sponsored by the Maryland Highway Safety Office and is a coordinated effort throughout the state. In 2003, the program focused on the following initiatives: Driving Under the Influence, Aggressive Driving, Pedestrian Safety, Young Driver and Occupant Protection.
