Police Officer of the Month

January 2007

PFC Jamie Machiesky

Chief of Police William J. McMahon selected PFC Jamie Machiesky as Police Officer of the Month for January 2007. During the month Machiesky had (5) insight reports, handled (56) calls for service, had a total of (7) arrests, and conducted (40) total traffic contacts. Below are highlights from his January performance:

CDS Paraphernalia: Machiesky responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the 6600 blk of Aspern Drive. He arrived and observed two individuals in the vehicle who appeared to be either sleeping or intoxicated. He asked both individuals for their identification but neither one had ID. Computer checks revealed that both individuals had a history of CDS involvement. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of CDS paraphernalia, a glass smoking pipe with residue inside, and a small clear plastic vial with a plastic cap on top used to store crack cocaine. Both individuals were placed under arrest.

Assault Second Degree: Machiesky responded to a residence on Old Waterloo Road for a domestic report. He arrived and learned that a woman was assaulted by her husband. The suspect punched the victim in the throat and on the back of her head. He observed that the victim was injured as a result of the assault. Machiesky placed the suspect under arrest for assault and advised the victim how to apply for a Protective Order from the court.

Theft over $500: Machiesky responded to the Best Buy Warehouse for a theft investigation. He learned that a manager was suspected of stealing more than $20,000 in merchandise from the warehouse. Prior to notifying the police, members of the Best Buy loss prevention department interviewed the suspect who denied involvement in the theft but admitted to selling several televisions on EBAY.

Machiesky took ownership of this investigation and immediately began collecting information necessary to identify the suspect’s house and vehicles in anticipation of executing a search and seizure warrant. He sought assistance from members of CIB and submitted a request to EBAY to identify sales transactions and buyers of the merchandise.

Machiesky executed the search warrant seizing numerous items listed on the search warrant. The collection of this documentary evidence afforded you the ability to positively identify items of property that were stolen from the Best Buy warehouse in Elkridge and sold by the suspect on EBAY. Machiesky located two of the stolen televisions that were sold on EBAY at locations in Baltimore County. He responded to those addresses and obtained the cooperation of the buyers. Heu photographed the televisions and recorded serial numbers so that confirmation could be obtained that the item came from the Best Buy Warehouse. He identified at least eight televisions that were sold by the suspect on EBAY with an estimated retail value of at least $16,000. He performed in an exceptional manner throughout this investigation.

PFC Machiesky is described as a highly motivated officer who supports his supervisors, his peers and the Department.
