Police Officer of the Month

September 2005

Recognizing his vital but often overshadowed role in our agency, Chief Livesay selected PFC Mark Hart as the Police Officer of the Month for September.

During this month, PFC Hart was given the overwhelming task of recalling, inspecting and upgrading over 250 Mobile Data Computers in addition to his regular daily assignments.

The technology field is ever-changing and ultra-competitive. Oftentimes, companies are more interested in promoting their organizations and deflecting blame than in solving the crisis at hand. PFC Hart was able to serve as a liaison between agencies like Motorola and Verizon while simultaneously identifying the problems and holding contractors accountable to our department.

Any officer who has ever experienced a problem with their MDT or AVL knows that PFC Hart has become to “go-to” person who can likely solve their issue expeditiously.

PFC Hart is known in his unit for being consistent, effective and able to multi-task when unexpected situations arise. While incorporating the overhaul of MDTs into September’s objectives, PFC Hart assisted several officers while he was off-duty, often allowing them to come to his residence in order to meet their needs on their patrol schedule.

Assisting officers on the road has always been a priority for PFC Hart, who served as a road officer for more than 18 years before accepting his current assignment in Computer Operations in the summer of 2000.

Officers who have an MDT should know that that the software has been tested, bugs have been removed and the appropriate programs have been uploaded by a fellow officer who has never sought credit or praise for his work.

In Major Gary Gardner’s words, “PFC Mark Hart is an unsung hero in the department.”
