Police Officer of the Month

October 2005

PFC Diana Peters was selected by Chief Livesay to be the Police Officer of the Month for October, 2005. During this month Officer Peters was described as being energetic, always working and continuously active by her watch commander, Lt. Tim Black.

During the month Officer Peters answered 94 calls for service and made 8 criminal arrests, most of which were the result of self-initiated investigative work following up on major crimes that occurred in her beat. Sergeant Stan Proudlock wrote that “Officer Peters’ performance during the month of October sets her apart from her peers” in the nomination.

Officer Peters interviewed a suspect who was observed on video cashing several stolen checks. After her interview and interrogation, Peters was able to obtain a written statement from the suspect admitted guilt in multiple counts of theft. During a follow up to a rash of burglaries that plagued the Butterfield Drive area of Elkridge, Peters contacted victims, gathered evidence, testified before the Grand Jury and applied for charging documents, closing the investigation with arrests.

Self initiated activity by Officer Peters resulted in the arrest of a subject at the Greenway Motel, wanted for CDS distribution. Additionally, a thorough neighborhood canvass led to significant contact with several juveniles after a Hate-Bias incident. This proactive policing has opened a new avenue for the investigation and possibly tied in other destruction of property crimes from the same area.

Officer Peters’ initiative and thorough, detail-oriented investigative work led to the arrests of several suspects and created a real sense of “integrity, pride & community” for the citizens she served. Congratulations Officer Diana Peters, for a job well done!
