Police Officer of the Month

February 2005

Officer Jay Weber has been chosen as the Police Officer of the Month for February 2005.

He is being recognized for exceptional work in enforcing both the motor vehicle and criminal laws throughout the month.

Officer Weber has been an officer with the department since July 2003 and has been described as aggressive in his traffic enforcement and criminal patrol initiatives. Below are some of his noteworthy accomplishments.

Early in the month, PO Weber observed a vehicle that appeared to have run off the road. He pulled up behind the vehicle and observed that the driver’s side tires were either flat or missing. It appeared that the vehicle had hit something, causing the tires to flatten. PO Weber approached the driver and detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage. Field sobriety tests were conducted and the driver was placed under arrest for DUI.

In three other separate cases, PO Weber conducted computer inquiries on three vehicles and determined that the registered owners of the vehicles were suspended. PO Weber initiated traffic stops on all three vehicles and charged each driver with driving on a suspended license.

In another case, PO Weber stopped a vehicle for speeding and arrested the occupants after recovering a folding knife and drugs.

In another case, PO Weber assisted another officer who gave a lookout for an assault and robbery. PO Weber located three subjects walking on Rt. 1 and detained them. The victim identified the three subjects as the ones who had assaulted and robbed him. They were placed under arrest and it was later determined that one of the subjects had an outstanding warrant on file.

In the middle of the month, PO Weber initiated a traffic stop for an equipment violation. The driver was found to be driving on a suspended license. The five occupants of the vehicle were removed from the car and a search revealed drugs inside the vehicle.

At the end of the month, PO Weber was dispatched to a report of a destruction of property. PO Weber was familiar with the suspects from a prior arrest and was able to arrest them with the victim’s help.

Officer Weber has been described as being a true team player with a willingness to learn. The department congratulates PO Weber on this well-deserved recognition.
