Police Officer of the Month

September 2004

Police Officer Anthony Nigro has been selected as Police Officer of the Month for September 2004. During the month, Officer Nigro displayed investigative skills during some noteworthy traffic contacts.

In one incident, officer Nigro , stopped a vehicle for a cracked windshield only to discover the driver’s license was suspended. Officer Nigro then inquired about the passenger only to discover an arrest warrant was on file for the man in Kentucky. Officer Nigro arrested the passenger and charged the driver in the incident with operating on a suspended license. The passenger was later extradited back to Kentucky where he faces serious drug trafficking charges in that state.

In another incident, officer Nigro assisted at what seemed to be a routine traffic collision. While it was not necessary to do so officer Nigro conducted license and registration checks on the drivers involved in the accident prior to having them exchange information with on another. Officer Nigro found that one of the drivers had a suspended License and charged that driver.

Nigro later stopped a vehicle for not displaying a front tag. PO Nigro observed that the driver had an open can of beer in his lap. The investigation continued and along with improper registration and insurance charges, a search of the vehicle was obtained and drugs were recovered from the vehicle.

According to his supervisor, PO Nigro is a well-rounded officer who puts a fresh effort in each new case. “He conducts thorough investigations, whether it is a traffic stop or a fraud investigation,” says Sgt. Claxton.

Additionally, PO Nigro led his platoon with ten arrests.

PO Nigro has been described by his peers as one of the leaders on Platoon B and a team player. He shows initiative while working and lends assistance to his fellow officers. His investigative skills during traffic stops has shown his commitment to the Department objectives of using traffic stops to identify and arrest criminals traveling through Howard County in an effort to reduce criminal activity.
