Police Officer of the Month

February 2004

Police Officer Jennifer Reidy was selected as the Officer of the Month for February 2004. She was awarded this recognition for her initiative and high productivity during the month of February.

Early in the month, Officer Reidy investigated a theft and fraud case involving a suspect who was attempting to return merchandise purchased on a stolen credit card. Officer Reidy gathered evidence and when the suspect attempted to commit the crime again, she was waiting to question her. Ultimately, the suspect was arrested and charged.

Through her observations, Officer Reidy also located the fraud suspect’s vehicle in the parking lot, in which a second suspect was waiting. The vehicle and male suspect matched the description of a vehicle involved in a similar fraud case that had occurred earlier that day in Towson. Officer Reidy suspected the two cases to be related and identified the male suspect. Her instincts were right—the male suspect was the getaway driver for the female suspect. Officer Reidy arrested the male suspect on an outstanding warrant.

In another case, Officer Reidy investigated a prescription fraud at a Giant Pharmacy. She quickly contacted the necessary parties to verify the incident as fraud while the suspect was on his way to pick up fraudulent prescription. When the suspect arrived at the pharmacy, she arrested him without incident.

On two occasions in February, Officer Reidy observed minor traffic violations while on routine patrol. She conducted complete checks of the drivers, discovered they were driving on suspended licenses and arrested both.

As a consistent performer, Officer Reidy brings initiative and perseverance each night she serves the citizens of Howard County. DP
