Police Officer of the Month April 2002 Chief Livesay selected PFC Andrew Kalocai as Police Officer for the Month for April 2002. Officer Kalocai produced an exceptional amount of work during the month of April and has proven himself to be a highly motivated and well-rounded patrol officer. His statistics for the month were impressive and include: CDS VIOLATION: Officer Kalocai responded to the area of eastbound Rt. 40 near Chestnut Hill Drive to assist another officer with a traffic stop. During the stop, Officer Kalocai approached the passenger side of the vehicle and observed the front passenger trying to conceal an item (possibly CDS) from officers at the scene. A K-9 scan was conducted on the vehicle, CDS was located and both the driver and the passenger were arrested. BURGLARY: Officer Kalocai, along with fellow officers, responded to the Forest Motel for a burglary in progress call. A witness had observed 5 suspects force entry into one of the rooms. Officer Kalocai and other officers used a quick and tactical response, catching all 5 suspects in the room. Officer Kalocai and his recruit officer (Baxter) gathered evidence, interviewed the witness, charged and processed the 5 suspects for B&E and related crimes. MEDICAL EMERGENCY ASSIST: Upon arrival at a medical emergency call, paramedics requested Officer Kalocai's assistance with a diabetic patient in crisis. The patient was in need of sugar, was disoriented, and combative. Officer Kalocai assisted with restraining the patient to prevent injury to himself or others. Treatment was administered and the patient became calm. 911 HANG UP: While working an off-duty uniformed security assignment at Wilde Lake Middle School, Officer Kalocai observed several juveniles gathered around a pay telephone. Officer Kalocai then observed one of the juveniles appear to make a call then move away from the telephone. The telephone rang and Officer Kalocai answered. A 911 operator advised they had just received a 911 hang-up from that phone. Officer Kalocai confronted the juvenile who had used the phone and obtained a confession to a false 911 call. Officer Kalocai arrested and charged the juvenile. Officer Kalocai has demonstrated tenacious enforcement of both traffic and criminal violations during the month of April. He has trained recruit officers and also continually assist newer and less-experienced officers on the shift. Congratulations and keep up the good work! |
