Green House Gas Inventory & Climate Action
Robinson Nature Center

Green House Gas Inventory & Climate Action Plan
The County developed a comprehensive greenhouse gas emission inventory. The Inventory is broader than most municipal inventories for two reasons. First, it inventories all six green house gases: CO2Carbon Dioxide, CH4 Methane, N2O Nitrous Oxide, HFC's Hydro fluorocarbons, PFC's Perflourocarbons, and SF6 Sulfur Hexafluoride. Additionally the inventory measures not just the direct and indirect emissions for County government operations but also for the community as a whole. The complete inventory can be found here.

The Energy Committee of the 2007 Commission developed a series of goals for the County and over the next few months, we will be working with a team of experts to clarify the goals and develop a strategy for achieving them.

Robinson Nature Center
In February of 2005, the County purchased 18.4 acres from the Middle Patuxent Nature Center Foundation (now the Robinson Nature Center Foundation). This parcel was deeded to the Foundation as a gift from Anne S. Robinson under the conditions that the Foundation sell the property to the County and that a nature center be constructed on the property. Mrs. Robinson also required the Foundation donate $1 million to the County for the purposes of design and construction of the County’s first Nature Center.

The Robinson Nature Center will be the first nature center owned and operated by the County Government. The Center will truly be a cutting edge educational facility as well as the state’s second LEED platinum building. Building design is underway currently.
