COMMISSION ON AGING

Working to maintain a
senior-friendly Howard County

THE COMMISSION'S MISSION

To promote successful aging for Howard County's seniors.

THE COMMISSION'S VISION

A county in which seniors can live safely, comfortably, securely and productively.

About the Commission

The Howard County Commission on Aging is a 15-member volunteer advisory board to the County Executive, County Council, and the Howard County Office on Aging. The commission strives to ensure that all adults 55 and older can "age in place successfully and productively," and can remain in the county as long as individuals choose, in an affordable, safe and convenient living situation.

Commissioners are nominated by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council for five-year terms. They represent diverse professional backgrounds, various age and ethnic groups, and many geographic areas of the county. Many work on behalf of seniors.

Four committees: Advocacy, Health and Wellness, Housing, and Transportation allow members to focus on local, state and regional issues of concern to Howard County seniors. Since collaboration is key, commission committees include representatives from county nonprofits, businesses, government agencies, the faith community, as well as concerned citizens.

Commission meetings are held the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Ellicott City Senior Center. Meeting dates and times are published in local newspapers, and are available from the Office on Aging, 410-313-6410.

For additional information about the Commission, please e-mail the Commission at coa@howardcountymd.gov or Susan Rosenbaum, Acting Administrator, Howard County Office on Aging at srosenbaum@howardcountymd.gov
