Final Call for Howard County’s “Community Sports Hall of Fame” Nominations

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County’s Department of Recreation & Parks has announced a last call for nominations for the 2010 “Community Sports Hall of Fame.” The Community Sports Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding individuals who have gained prominence in or made substantial contributions to community recreational sports in Howard County. Deadline for nominations is April 16, 2010.

Athletes, coaches, managers, league officials or even behind-the-scenes contributors closely identified with community recreation sports can be nominated. In addition, nominees must be either residents of Howard County or made their community sports contributions primarily in Howard County.

Nomination forms are available on line at www.hcrpsports.com, at all local Howard County Library branches or by calling Recreation & Parks at (410) 313-4711. In addition to the form, nominators must provide the Hall of Fame Committee with an essay, limited to 4 double-spaced, typed pages, demonstrating the nominee's community sports background.

All nominations must be postmarked by the April 16 deadline and mailed or delivered to Recreation & Parks Community Sports Hall of Fame, 7120 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia, MD 21046-1677. The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, October 19.

The Howard County Community Sports Hall of Fame was established in 2005. Current Hall of Fame inductees include: Stan Ber, Karen Brelsford, John Dye, Phil Lang, Jim McCleary, Patricia Muth, Ray Page, Tony Brudis, Jim Carlan, Don Disney, Karen Dye, Roger Hockey, Helen Moody, Stanley “Chick” Nedzel, Marie Curry, Paul Donovan, James McCauley, Bill McCormack, Jr., Joseph Wall, Jim Yedlicka, Jr., Bob Baker, Peter Finck, Russ Flowers, Woody and Carol Hearn, P.J. Kesmodel, Adelaine Stocks, Rob Vigorito, Anton Aardrup, George and Joyce Bickerton, Arleen Dinneen, Bill Glasgow, Feliz Rausch, Bill Sim, Bill and Betty Straehle and David Tripp.
