Final Call for “Celebrating Successes for Children” Nominations

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Do you know any people or programs that make a positive impact on the lives of Howard County children? Plan to nominate them for recognition at the 11th annual “Celebrating Successes for Children” ceremony hosted by County Executive Ken Ulman and the Howard County Office of Children’s Services. The ceremony salutes people and programs who work with children in many ways, such as mentors, child care providers, Scout leaders, coaches, human service workers, volunteers, businesses and school or camp programs.

Categories include:

• Infants and Toddlers (0-3 years)
• Pre-school (3-5 years)
• Elementary School (Kindergarten through 5th Graders)
• Middle School (6th through 8th Graders)
• High School (9th through 12th Graders)
• Youth Award
• Family Friendly Business Award

While an individual nominee doesn't have to be a resident of Howard County, he or she must serve Howard County children; however, program or business nominees must be located in Howard County. Nominations are due by Friday, March 26, 2010.

“This annual ceremony gives us an opportunity to recognize all of the programs and individuals who are dedicated to the development and well being of children,” said County Executive Ulman. “It’s always great to thank those who are committed to helping our youngest residents prepare themselves for the future.”

Nomination forms are also available on line at www.howardcountymd.gov/children. All nominations must be e-mailed, faxed (410-313-1430), delivered or postmarked by Friday, March 26.

Nominees will be recognized during the Month of the Young Child at the county’s annual “Celebrating Successes for Children” Ceremony on Thursday, April 29. An interpreter for people who are deaf or hard of hearing will be available, if requested, seven days prior to the event.
