Howard County’s 50+EXPO Goes GREEN!

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Want to learn about environmental sustainability, how to make the world a safer and cleaner place, and how to lessen your carbon footprint? Then stop by the “Living Green” Fair at this year’s 50+EXPO, presented by Howard County’s Office on Aging, on Friday, October 16 from 9 am to 4 pm at Wilde Lake High School, 5460 Trumpeter Road in Columbia.

The “Living Green” Fair will feature vendors with products and services that include home energy audits, “green” flooring, water purifiers and items made out of recycled materials. There will also be information about Howard County’s recycling programs and the Green Neighborhood initiatives.

Food and beverages in the 50+ Café will be served with compostable paper and plastic products including plates and cutlery made from sugarcane and cold drinking cups made out of vegetables. Following the EXPO, the used products and leftover food will be collected and composted by the Maryland Cooperative Extension Services’ Master Gardeners. This year, the EXPO will also recycle all paper, cardboard, plastics and cans.

The 50+EXPO is presented by Howard County’s Office on Aging and targets adults age 50 and older, younger adults with disabilities, their caregivers and family members, and features over 140 exhibitors, workshops, educational seminars, great entertainment and food. Free shuttle buses will run continuously between the 50+EXPO and the Mall in Columbia (near Sears’ lower parking lot) throughout the day, with the first bus departing the Mall at 8:45 a.m. and the last shuttle leaving the 50+EXPO at 4:30 p.m.
