Ulman Announces Free Holiday Parking in Downtown Ellicott City

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Today in front of the B&O Railroad Museum in downtown Ellicott City, County Executive Ken Ulman announced that beginning this Friday metered parking in downtown will be free until the end of the year. “I know the national economic problems are hurting everyone, but I am hopeful that measures like this one help those who run, and are employed by, small businesses,” said Ulman.

There are four metered parking areas in downtown Ellicott City that offer more than 140 spaces; signs notifying customers of the free parking will be placed at the entrance of all four locations. “Executive Ulman’s decision really shows that our local government is listening to small businesses,” remarked Angela Tersiguel, President of the Ellicott City Business Association.

The Ellicott City Restoration Foundation had requested that the County consider free weekend parking during the holidays, so Ulman’s decision was more than appreciated. “Downtown Ellicott City is an incredibly unique place to visit: great shops, restaurants and galleries – add free parking to the mix and there can’t be a better place to do your holiday shopping,” said Foundation President Ed Lilley.

Parking on Main Street, which is not metered, is still limited to two hours. The County does ask patrons of downtown Ellicott City to consider limiting parking to two hours or less – that way more people can take advantage of this unique opportunity.
